Our client is an Indie romance author seeking to copy edit and proofread her 124000 word manuscript, and make it ready for publication. The budget is quite Low, only USD 120. You must enjoy reading romance novels. You must be a native English speaker, with some knowledge in French language, as some French words are involved in the text. We require grammar, spelling check, and checks for inconsistencies. No need for major plot edits or to write dialogues. No need to make suggestions on scenes. No rewrites. The story and plot are set, we just need it to be perfect in terms of grammar and spelling. You will be asked to sign an Non-disclosure / confidentiality Agreement before you start the work. Your name will be written in the acknowledgement section as editor. PLEASE! NO RIDICULOUS OFFERS. We already set the budget. Do no engage or bid a low price and then end up asking for twice or thrice the budget price later. We will only be wasting each other's time with that. You must enjoy reading Erotica and Romance and have read a fair share in this genre. You can suggest a blurb and if we use your blurb, we can pay extra USD 15. No special education is required but it's a plus if you have edited novels for publication before. We would require a maximum two weeks completion. And you will be asked to work on a document with Track Changes. If we like your job, we will contact you for the next two novels we need editing on this year. Looking forward to your proposals!

Je parle un petit peu Francais mais pas tres bien - as you can see from that last comment. I do think I'll be OK with the occasional French words you say are included. I'm quite happy to work under an NDA - most of my work is like that which makes it difficult to provide examples. I find that working in Word with track changes makes it easier for both parties so that's no problem either. Your budget is unrealistic for what you expect to achieve! You should be willing to pay at least $1.00 a page, which might make the job worthwhile for an experienced proofreader. I could proofread for spelling, grammar, punctuation, and inconsistencies for that figure, with a realistic deadline for completion (124,000 words should work out to about 250 pages, depending upon font, spacing, etc.). FYI: Proofreading is not a scan job. It is not a "read for entertainment" endeavor, requires close attention to detail, and often requires more than one reading if the job is to be thorough.
