PART ONE – Documenting Multi Mic Recording Sessions:
PART 1A:
Submit a report (2,000 words) that fully documents the techniques used in the recording sessions.
This should include photos/video and diagrams, plus accurate placement measurements of both sound source and microphone positions in the chosen space.
You should also describe the rationale behind all microphone choices, including a comparison of the potential differences in perceived ambience/reverberation and frequency response characteristics of the various configurations.
PART 1B:
Additionally, propose an alternative approach/technique not used, and document how you would have implemented the technique in the given scenarios.
PART TWO – Mixdowns:
PART 2A:
Using the recordings detailed in Part 1 Create two different stereo mixdowns for each of the two chosen sessions (i.e. four mixes in total)
Each mix should make use of at least four microphones to create the final stereo mix.
PART 2B:
Using the recordings in Part 1, create a Binaural headphone mix using Pro Tools & Dolby Atmos Renderer of one of the recording sessions. This can be different from the session used for your regular stereo mixes.
PART 2C:
Provide a short (3-4 mins each) screen recording for each mix (i.e. five in total) covering your mix and any additional processing alongside a commentary discussing your choices and findings.
NOTE: Your submission should contain (48kHz/24Bit stereo .wav) files of both 'stereo mixes' and 'the Binaural headphone mix', along with a video with commentary for each recording used.
PART 3 – Kit Proposal:
In the form of an Excel spreadsheet (saved to a PDF if you wish), provide a kit list proposal for a portable recording rig suitable for orchestras, choirs, small ensembles and soloists.
Spreadsheet should include: Item, Number included in setup, Cost, Supplier (web link)
The total budget (including cables etc.) should not exceed £20k (inc VAT).
Include a column for brief notes on each item.
NOTE:
All Recordings and other necessary documentation would the be uploaded. Such as pictures / videos of the various mic positioning and documentation of various mics used and the distances from the sound source.
NOTE:
You are not to do any form of recording, the following are the Submission Requirements (In Summary)
PART 1 – Report (2000 words - PDF) –
A) Document three recording session/scenarios.
B) Propose an alternative for each.
PART 2 – Five mixdowns + videos –
A) Four stereo mixes (WAV) - 2 different mixes of each two recording sessions chosen.
B) One Immersive headphone mix (WAV) - from any of the sessions (and can be different from the session used for your regular stereo mixes).
C) Five walkthrough videos. One for each mix submitted.
PART 3 - Kit proposal (EXCEL or EXCEL exported to PDF)
