Embedded software for STM8S003 MCU

Do you need to use a specific IDE? Would you object to using the SDCC compiler instead of a traditional IDE? (I use Linux - so can not use many of the IDEs available on Windows.) My experience is mainly with STM32 rather than STM8 microcontrollers. However, I think that I could bring myself up to speed (to the extent required for this project) over the course of a few days. What is your timeframe for the project? I might be able to use a TSSOP - DIP adapter in order to use the STM8S003F3P6. It would take some time and effort to replicate your hardware setup (ordering part(s), soldering, etc.).
