Design PCB Including Hardware + Firmware Development

1. Scope: Hardware and firmware development as a 2nd generation proof-of-concept design including features implements in their most simple form. A 1st generation proof-of-concept exists including BOM, Schematics, Gerber File etc. 2. Requirements: The PCB should include a microcontroller unit (MCU) that samples external readings using the ADC and shall communicate with a host via virtual COM port over USB. 3. Solution: The architecture should include a MCU, an external ADC and an authenticator chip. The MCU shall interface with the external ADC via SPI. Different type of external inputs should be interfaced to different input channels of the external ADC. The MCU shall provide square wave signal for one input. The MCU shall interface with the authenticator chip using 1-wire interface. The device shall connect to a host via USB interface which will emulate as a virtual COM port. The MCU firmware shall read the authenticator chip and relay the information to the host PC. The analog inputs from the sensors shall be sampled by the MCU via the external ADC. The readings are processed in the MCU and relayed to the host PC via the USB COM port connection. 4. Alpha Prototype: Design for the project will be based off an older alpha prototype that needs be be validated and performance needs to be upgraded. The alpha prototype Bill of Materials, Gerber File, Layout Drawing and Schematic are available. Firmware needs to be rewritten from scratch. 5. Deliverables: Hardware (Schematic, PCB Layout, Hardware Testing, PCB Testing, Hardware Design Documentation Package) + Software (Software Detailed Design, Device Drivers, Device State Machine Architecture, Functional Verification Testing) Notes: 1.
