Advice for desktop CNC

you should go for mach3 Hi there I am an experienced mechanical engineer and expert in solidworks & Solidcam. I have designed, worked and installed various industrial machine and I have in-depth experience in mechanism. I have worked various types of VMC and CNC. I have clear understanding of CAD over HTML. Okay so i looked into this myself after i finished my printer build and the best way to do something like this is to retrofit a older mill for CNC. Main problem of building one from scratch is that it is way over your budget. If you build it you will be lucky to cut aluminum very slowly. Most desktop cncs are very light weight and will not handle the vibrations needed for a cnc cutting steel. You will see alot of chattering and broken bits. That said I have been looking into getting a retrofit kit for a mill. Most use nema 23s and some sort of controller. If you just google the mill you like with "cnc retrofit" after it you will find way more info then you will here. Hope this helps you. Good luck!
