We are looking for someone to host an SQL Server 2000 database. We normally run our databases on a shared SQL Server. However this job involves setting up replication as follows:
SQL server will act as a central datastore. I am building a client app in Access that will run at 20 different sites. This will connect to SQL Server via dial-up internet connection (probably 2-3 updates per day) to synchronise the data (just a single view / table). I'm using merge replication as some Access users will be able to amend certain fields.
Most hosting companies are saying that they can't / won't make replication available in a shared environment and that I'll need to consider co-hosting a dedicated machine. However the scale of the project doesn't warrant this kind of outlay and I'm looking for an alternative.
Please get in touch if you are running SQL Server and are interested in reselling some space. Can you give a user control over replication of a single database without giving them permissions that would let them get up to mischief with other databases and the server in general?
Thanks
Daniel
