Hi, I have graduated with a Master of Engineering Practice degree from Victoria University of Wellington on May 2019. During my time here I took courses on Mechatronics and Artificial Intelligence. Here I had the opportunity to learn about various machine learning algorithms and their wide range of applications. Doing an image classification project as part of my university coursework and taking part in a Kaggle competition gave me an idea on how data science is done in real world applications. I explored the various Python libraries used for data extraction and data pre-processing. Studying machine learning provided me with a fresh perspective on the wide and varied applications of engineering. After graduating with my Master’s degree I worked as a Data Scientist at the New Zealand Transport Agency. This involved calculating the predictability of traffic through various routes in New Zealand. The goal was to analyze and understand how traffic behaves during different months of a year and how it changes with respect to the time of day. Most of the work here was done on Python and pandas. My experience here provided valuable insights on working with data in a professional setting and on presenting the findings to various stakeholders throughout a major organization.
