Joomla Form Date Validation not working

We have a form on our Joomla site build using a plugin called 'Payment Forms'. The form is supposed to validate fields before submitting. This is working for all of the fields except date fields. On the date field if it is left blank the validation works. But if the user enters something like 'blahblah' then the field will still submit with the value 'blahblah' for that field. We need someone to fix this so that the field only allows dates in the format of mm-dd-yyyy Any other values should display the validation error. I can provide a link to the example site and more details for those interested.
