Bird Data Entry This job requires a contractor who is familiar with bird life and nature, and who is capable of fastidious review of data. Specifically the task involves reviewing range maps for birds of North America on a web page, then entering the names of the states and providences where they habitat into the cells of an Excel spreadsheet (attached). The range maps for the birds can be seen at: [login to view URL] This is the top page of the search engine. You can see the first 8 birds on that page in the Match window. Click on the first bird, Abert's Towhee Breeding Male, and its account page will come up. The range map is under the illustration of the bird. To see all the birds in the database click on the Show All link. The maps are completed up to the Thick-billed Kingbird. The spreadsheet contains a list of birds in the first column, column A and the current Locations in column B. The new corrected Locations are to be entered in column C. The names of the states and providences must be separated by a “~?? (tilde) character. The spelling is extremely critical; if there is a typo the database will assume that it’s a new state or providence and cause double entries. As an example of what is involved in this job take a look at the Abert’s Towhee example. The Location attribute on the web page for this bird lists the following states: Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah However the range map shows the bird also inhabits Mexico. Therefore the corrected string for this bird should be entered in the sheet as: Arizona~California~Mexico~Nevada~New Mexico~Utah When a bird is shown as flying over water, you would add any states or providences or countries that the color in the map touches or comes close to, since these birds are likely to be seen of those shorelines. ## Deliverables 1) Complete and fully-functional spreadsheet. 2) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law.
