RGRTA Mobile Transit Application

Rochester Genesee Regional Transportation Authority (RGRTA) is looking to develop and publish a mobile application for iOS and Android operating systems that will deliver and provide customers with real-time schedule and bus locations, service alerts, trip planner, and customized business partner information. Statement of work Assumptions - The provider will be responsible for the project management, creative and functional design, technical requirement documentation, development, testing, and post-launch monitoring, including any bus fixes and crash handling. - RGRTA has an API (Application Programming Interface) which the provider can utilize to obtain schedule data, real-time location information and other sources of data necessary to complete feature design described within this document. RGRTA is flexible to any API additions or changes as necessary with proper prior communication to RGRTA. - RGRTA will retain a copy of the completed and documented source code for the application. - The provider will be responsible for developing content and obtaining approvals for the application through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. - The provider will also be responsible for providing RGRTA with basic education on updating and re-publishing the application. - The provider should develop the application with the intention that the same format can be utilized with different business partners, universities, schools and general public. - The provider will be responsible post-launch monitoring for 30 days and be responsible for bug fixes and crash handling of the application. - -The development partner is responsible for communicating to RGRTA a detailed project schedule with key milestones, RGRTA responsibilties, provider responsibilties, ongoing project statuses, and ensure that the project deliveribles are all being met. If any agreed upon milestone is in jeapordy of not beign met, the provider will notify RGRTA ahead of time to discuss the resolution the potential delay. Features RGRTA has determined a listing of features and functionality within the application which has been broken into multiple phases. This breakout into phases allows proper scoping and identification of costs for each individual feature. The primary objective of this application is to be developed for one of RGRTA’s business partners and the application should be developed in order to be customized in the future for use with RGRTA’s business partners (i.e local businesses, universities, schools, etc.) and the general public. RGRTA may wish to roll out multiple copies of the application in future releases tailored for different business partners. One example of this would be an application directly targeted towards the bus routes that serve only a single local college market. We would place the college’s logo in the applicationand brand the application as “RTS / Where’s My Bus? App.” Phase I RGRTA Application Workflow When the user opens the application on their device they should be shown an image of the RTS Where’s My Bus? logo and a logo of the respective business partner. The screen should show these images for a minimum of 2 seconds and then fade or change to the main screen of the application. The main screen of the application should be a menu driven screen that will allow the user the opportunity to make one of the following choices. These choices will be described in further detail after the listing. In Phase 2, there will be a section added to display rotating advertising images. - Nearest Bus Stop Locator - Where’s My Bus? - Plan My Trip - Service Alerts - Customized Partnership Information When the user selects any of the individual items off of the main screen it will take them to their respective selection for further input. At anytime, they can go back to the main screen or select another menu option. 1. Nearest Bus Stop Locator The Nearest Bus Stop is a feature that will allow the customer to use the GPS in their phone to find their location and the closest 3 bus stops around them. The screen will display a map source (Google or Apple) and selections on the lower section of the screen which will be used to either manually enter a bus stop ID number (this ID is on every RTS bus sign) or find one using the phone’s location services. The automatic find button will utilize the phone GPS capabilities (if available), triangulate the closest three stops to the phone and allow the user to select one of the bus stops closest to them. Once the user selects an individual bus stop, it will display the Where’s My Bus? feature. The Where’s My Bus feature will display next 3 bus arrival times for that stop and the routes associated with that stop. The user will then have the ability to select one of those bus routes. After the user selects the route of choice, the map will then display the bus stop location, and the bus location along user-selected route in real-time. 2. Where’s My Bus? The Where’s My Bus? feature is the main focus of the application. Users will be access Where’s My Bus? real-time information from the following menu options: 1. Nearest Bus Stop 2. Where’s My Bus (direct) 3. Plan My Trip Where’s My Bus will display the next 3 bus arrival times, route, and real-time bus location placed upon the route on a map. In order to view the next 3 bus arrival times, the route and the real-time bus location on a map, a user must select by either route, bus stop, or enter in their address, or use the “Nearest Bus Stop Locator” feature through GPS. This functionality is similar “Real-Time Maps and Schedules” on [login to view URL] but it adds the ability to search by location through GPS. After the user selects the route, the map will then display the bus stop location, and the bus location along user-selected route in real-time. The user will have the ability to view and get real time arrival information for all routes and bus within the entire RTS system. The business partner routes will be color coded to indicate that it’s a route customized for the business partner. 3. Plan My Trip Users will have the ability to plan their trip using the RTS via Google Transit. This feature will include a form where the user can enter their starting destination (either by typing the starting destination or by pulling their location via GPS), ending destination, and click submit. It will display the walking and transit directions to get to their destinations at that current time. This feature will be similar to the Google Maps application. 4. Service Alerts Service alerts feature will display all of the current and active service alerts pertaining to routes associated with the specific business partner. It will have a ability to display multiple alerts. The alerts can be expandable in order to read more about them by clicking on the title of the alert. Once the user clicks on the title, the alert information will example. The user will have the ability to expand and close each alert, but stay on the same page. The alerts will be formatted into text and send via API to the application to display within this section. 5. Customized Partnership Information This section will contain customer service information and lost and found information for RTS, Business Partner Contact Information, Contact Us Form, and links to view the full website at [login to view URL] and the business partner website’s transportation page (if available). There will also be a section for downloadable pdfs, such as how to guides, brochures, and schedules (if available).
