Good Morning,
I am a UK based highly skilled LAMP developer and Linux Systems administrator. I've worked on many open source projects over the years from phpMyAdmin through to Drupal, and did a lot of Zen Cart work (security, module development, custom feeds). I also am an expert at html, or mysql reports to PDF conversion.
I need a person or company to provide holiday cover, or that I can pass work to when I am overloaded. Normally with my skillset I am overpriced for the market at the moment, so I'm looking for the Indian or Eastern European based equivalent of myself, or someone that can code well and I can add finishing touches. I also do a lot of consultancy work where I recommend people because my prices are too high. One thing that I cannot do is web design, so for those mixed jobs, pooling resources would be beneficial.
What I need is a demonstration of what you can cover. [login to view URL] is mentioned on my resume and is javascript that has been running cross browser without modification since 2001. It doesn't matter if you cannot answer all of the questions or have different opinions, as you could look at this as a chance to learn or even teach me a thing or two, on a complex job (or anything to do with graphics design) I may need to farm out sections and then do the final stages myself, or I may be on holiday and just pass the complete job over. So the tests
How can you prove that the script has run unmodified (demonstrates general knowledge of the web)
Have you got anything in your history that uses object orientated javascript.
I can accept the use of jQuery or other libraries unless it is more efficient to use [login to view URL]().
What is R49 and C33 from a security point of view (I changed the names as a trick question) and how would you find them if they were hidden as an image using PHP and only FTP access
What's current the best way to generate a PDF from HTML (check [login to view URL] I wrote some of the original scripts in 2003)
Do you do OO PHP.
What testing facilities do you have ? (I have a dedicated server, cloud instances, virtual machines that can be spun up depending on the linux flavour).
Can you bash script ?
Set up apache as a reverse proxy for lighttpd?
On a dedicated server or VPS how would you dynamically resize images? as opposed to on shared hosting.
What's the easiest way to send information to another server by using PHP/ javascript, libcurl ? fsockopen ? (possibly a trick question).
Have you ever done any hacking (I have for the UK government for security testing so it's not a trick question).
If you given a job where many freelancers have failed, where do you start when you are given ftp access ? (I just upload a blank php file and start coding to test things on the fly so I bypass most systems and write the code from memory or cut & paste from the snippets I've built up over the years).
How do you minimise impact when working on a live site ?
What do you present to your client's (I present a working website and then a breakdown of the work done)
What do you do if the client moves the goal posts, e.g. changes the job specification from what they originally requested.
Thank you
Philip.
