You are required to answer all 7 of the short answer questions/scenarios based around the Australian medical industry. You will need to undertake research to complete each question. The following reference materials will be useful - Australian Government websites such as NSW Health or Privacy Commissioner Office website. Question 1 - You work as medical receptionist in specialist rooms for Dr Yee, a nephrologist. Dr Yee dictates his patient correspondence for you to complete. • Explain how you would ensure your work is reviewed and approved before presenting to the doctor for his signature. Question 2 - You work at the local medical centre in an administrative role. A patient phones to inform the practice that they have recently married and need to change their name and contact details. • State what information the patient will need to provide to allow the practice to make the name change. Question 3 - You are working in the physiotherapy outpatient clinic at your local hospital. The clinic’s organisational policies and procedures help to ensure confidentiality is maintained when handling medical records. • Give two (2) points that may be included in the policy which help to ensure the security and confidentiality for the following patient records which contain personal and financial information: a) Paper-based medical records b) Computerised medical records Question 4 - You are unsure of the procedures to follow when a patient arrives with an out-of-date referral. • List two (2) members of staff you would seek clarification from for this procedure. Question 5 - While a patient is seeing the doctor, their adult daughter approaches you and asks questions about her mother’s treatment and the seriousness of the condition. a) State what you would say to the daughter in response to her questions b) Who would you refer the daughter to so that she can receive information regarding her mother’s health Question 6 - As you file patient test results, you realise that your aunt is a patient of Dr Saunders and very unwell. a) State who would you advise of your relationship to the patient b) Explain why it is necessary to advise them Question 7 - You run into one of the staff from your administrative team outside the clinic. They start to talk to you about a patient’s results. • Explain how you would handle this situation.
