LiDAR stands for Light Detection and Ranging. LiDAR data provides high levels of detail and precision in describing elevation. Products derived from LiDAR include such things as very accurate elevation models as well as surface height information for such things as building and trees. Lidar LAS point cloud to generate an output raster of the tree canopy height. Calculating the difference between bare earth and first return lidar rasters provides information such as forest canopy height and character, building heights and orientation, aboveground utility alignment, a count of cars on the road, and even estimates of large livestock in a field.

The different land use classes mainly water body, mining area, forest cover, built-up area, barren land and agriculture land in coal field area  are identified and the impact of land use/land cover .
Land Use Land Cover Map Mining Area Using Sentinel 2 Data
Sentinel-2 MSI (multi-spectral instrument, Level-1C) remotely sensed data were used for LULC classification. The Sentinel-2 mission was developed by the European Space Agency (ESA) as a part of the Copernicus Programme. The mission’s wide swath, fine spatial resolution (10 m–60 m), multi-spectral features (13 spectral bands), and frequent revisit time (10 days at the equator with one satellite, and 5 days with two satellites) support monitoring vegetation changes within a growing season, forest monitoring, land cover change detection, and natural disaster management.

Satellites are now fitted with more advanced sensors that use spectral properties to identify materials without having to view them in person. Spectral data is collected by aircraft and satellites using infrared, near-infrared, thermal-infrared and short-wave technology. Geologists can use this data to pick out rock units and find clues about subsurface deposits of minerals, oil and gas and groundwater.
The technology in satellite systems has advanced to the point where not only individual mineral species can be mapped, but also chemical variations within the molecular structure of the crystal lattice of the mineral. The resolution of sensors on satellites can’t be compared to aircraft spectral remote sensors, but these satellites do come with other advantages. For example, satellite systems are able to collect more data from larger areas without having to fly any aircraft over the land in interest.

An automated system has been developed for automatedly identify Large Forest Fire events (LFEs). It uses python script to identify candidate LFEs based on threshold of juxtaposed (SNPP-VIIRS) pixels and track each of them across future satellite passes.
