I've been a market research consultant for over 20 years. I have a client for whom we have done a number of ad hoc studies over the past several years. We have collected some data that is fairly consistent across most of them. We are planning to do an actual Segmentation Study next year, but I feel definable clusters and segments are already hidden in the aggregated data we have already collected. I'm looking for someone with access to SPSS or an equivalent statistical package, who has experience doing cluster and segmentation statistical analysis. I also need some direction to make sure the data (to be delivered to you in Excel) is structured and labeled properly to fit your protocols for analysis. We are also de-dupping the data, but the sample should still be around 2,000 (exclusive) respondents/cases. I would like to get 3 - 6 clusters/segments, if possible. Also, could you advise on how small a sample size you might recommend for segmentation? We have some psychographic data that we'd like to be part of an analysis, but we only have it for a smaller portion of the aggregated sample and I'm not sure it would be possible or worth it to run a separate analysis for that group. I consider this to be Option B. I'd like to know your recommended segmentation approach, the tools (software) you'd use, the types of statistics or algorithms you would include, as well as an estimate of cost and timing.
