i need to conduct economic research and to do that i need to create a clean data set. The data i am looking to collect is EBITDA, EBIT, NPAT, Marketing Expense, share price gain or loss (beginning of period - end of period). Other variables required from a macro sense to be a control variables used will be:
i. Interest rates
ii. Inflation
iii. consumer sentiment
iv. GDP growth
(all for australia)
The data set i am hoping to create a data sample made up of atleast 50 companies from both the ASX200 and NZX50. This data is available online via both [login to view URL] and both published annual reports from each company.
the key considerations:
a. No company under a billion dollars of market capitalization will be considered.
b. To ensure that no hidden variables are impacting the data, companies that have had specific corporate events such as change of CEO, introduction of new capital, company age (no company less than 2 years old will be considered), any regulatory idiosyncratic risk, changes in accounting policies i.e. banks would be excluded due to a royal commission into banking taking place in 2017.
c. Data will be considered for the following time series. Data for the period 2012-2017 will be used due to the relative stability of interest rates during the period in both AUS/ NZ.
