The TIDE application consists of a teaching framework on an Android tablet device, within which there are several interactive exercises​­ called “activities”​­ for the learner to complete. The activities are categorised into different subjects: Mathematics, Environmental Science (EVS), and Language (currently Telugu). The activities are aimed at young children, with simple graphics and interactive elements such as tapping, drag­ and­ drop, and drawing.

Scope of Work

1) Develop the activities using SVG (preferable) or HTML5 canvas, with JavaScript and CSS as [login to view URL] TIDE application itself is a native Android application. All the existing activities have been coded in native Android too. Given the large number of activities however, we want the remaining activities to be coded using HTML and Javascript ­ either SVG or HTML5 Canvas. So the activities will be required to run in a WebView inside the existing android application, and loaded using “file:///” rather than “http://”. Based on our experimentation so far, apps developed using Construct 2 work fine using file:///. So Construct 2 experience would be ideal; alternate software/libraries are fine of course as long as they work using file:///.

2) Graphic design (images etc.) is NOT in scope, although coding of basic shapes like circles, arrows etc. is in scope. Simple images can also be obtained from open­source libraries. For anything more complex, TIDE will provide the graphics artifacts.

3) Number of activities to be developed:

○ Mathematics: approximately 100 activities, which will be small variations of 6 different types:

i) Writing (finger / stylus)

ii) Simple drag, of an object to answer position

iii) Ordering (for ascending order, for example)

iv) Match to shapes

v) Swipe (subtraction exercises)

vi) Tap an object to select an answer

○ EVS: approximately 100 activities, again variations of the 6 types above.

4) Work with the Android development team (based in Bangalore) to integrate the HTML based activities into the Android application. HTML5 content will be a separate directory with a root html file. Application will load the root html file in WebView in its own container. Application will see the content as black box. To pass data from HTML back to Application (score, time taken etc.), Application will inject javascript into WebView which can be executed by content's HTML. Data being passed will depend on the content's functionality.

5) We are seeking a long­-term development partner, as there will be additional work in the future ­- new activities, new subjects, and also customer support.
