Here is my next project for you.
I need to create a Grid Trade model on excel to backtest the model on an excel sheet.
Actually, I have done most of it already, but need your help to finish it.
This is a simple formula is that:
- Sells NZD when the exchange rate goes up (hits a trigger point)
- Sells AUD when the exchange rate goes down.
- Holds at all other times.
For example, if the NZD is sold at 1.10 and then exchanged back to AUD at 1.07, it should show at 0.03 profit.
The excel sheet I have is designed to incorporate many investments at once. For example, at 1.10 is Sells NZD, at 1.13 is Sells NZD again (so two investments are made). I need the sheet to file the life cycle of a single investment.
Can you please think of a solution and modify my excel to achieve the desired outcome?
You may have a better solution. One solution to model the life cycle of a single investment could be that the triggers still apply, but only if funds are available in that currency account. So, AUD buys at 1.03, even if AUD continues to go up, it cannot buy as all funds now in nzd account. If the rate goes down to 1.00 then AUD sells (using the funds from the NZD account). So likewise, if the rate continues to drop NZD cannot buy again as no funds in the NZD account. This way all transactions are using the same original investment amount, and the model should show the performance over time of that specific lot.
A separate identical model can be used for each lot, i.e one excel sheet for first buy at 1.03, second sheet for but at 1.06 etc. Perhaps a master sheet could keep a running total.
Please apply if you are very experienced with excel. Understanding of forex is useful.
