As part of the Elective Studies Program, he became the first...In 1957, Georgios Tataris was born in Mytilene. In 1975, he received his diploma from Mytilene High School. He graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1981 from Thessaloniki Technical University and has continued to work in his field ever since. As part of the Elective Studies Program, he became the first graduate in 2002 to acquire the degree of Environmental Cartographer from the Department of Environment at the University of the Aegean's School of Social Sciences. He was awarded the postgraduate title "Geography and Planning in Europe and the Mediterranean" by the University of the Aegean's School of Social Sciences' Department of Geography in 2006. In 2022 he was conferred a Doctor of the Department of Geography, School of Social Sciences of the University of the Aegean. "The Evolution of the Settlements of Lesbos in the Second Half of the 20th Century" was the title of his thesis. During the academic year 2022–2023, he will work as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Geography at the University of the Aegean. Prior to that, he joined the Department of Geography’s Cartography and Geoinformatics Laboratory in 2003. He has contributed extra instructional work to the courses Geography & Applied Geoinformatics, Natural Hazards and Natural Disaster Management, Disaster Theory–Risk Assessment–Vulnerability, and Introduction to Applied Geoinformatics as part of his educational initiatives. In addition, he does research as a member of University of the Aegean research groups. He is co-author scholarly publications on scale-related topics in geographic database infrastructures in marine spatial planning, cartography, geovisualization, and 3D visualization, as well as long-term monitoring of restoration following natural catastrophes. Thematic cartography, scale issues in cartography, surveying using contemporary techniques, 3D geovisualization and novel approaches in cartographic imaging are among his areas of interest. moins
