We need a writer to assist with a book for mothers-to-be, and this competition is our selection process. This “assignment” also defines the role we need: a writer to take background material and defined talking points we provide and put together several paragraphs that bring the topics to life, in language that connects with a mom-to-be/new mom.

This book is for Boot Camp for New Moms, a new workshop being developed as the counterpart to the decades old Boot Camp for New Dads. The “veteran moms” who originally attended as rookie moms-to-be and come back as mentors, are the stars. What they individually found to be important, what worked for them, and what they would do differently are their talking points. This along with research we vet with our BS scanner, and similar information from dads, especially that related to moms, forms the content. We take no stand on any issue, provide moms-to-be information they can trust, and encourage them to work with their partner to make the best decision for their family.

For this assignment we would like a 3/4 page tribute to the passion women bring to motherhood; the nobility – no one is more committed to another. We want to remind mothers-to-be (perhaps for the last time) that they are becoming someone very special - a mother. Not in dramatic or mushy terms, but something inspiring that conveys what a young woman changes into when she becomes a mother. We took a shot at ideas:

You tend to lose the forest for the trees when you track changes month-by-month, and amidst the morning sickness and sore nipples, there are few reminders of the forest. It goes well beyond strength you will muster and the joy your baby will bring you, but more importantly who you will grow into, and the commitment you will make to your baby and new family. Here is a glimpse of the forest to keep in the back of your mind.

• Motherhood will add a whole new dimension to your personality and character, change you to your core; you will, in essence, be reborn as a mom.
• A mother’s phenomenal commitment assures a child’s well being, if not survival, which causes a mother to sacrifice a great deal as they carry, give birth and care for their baby .
• A new way of life, a passion which tempers and deepens
• It involves courage and challenge

Your metamorphosis into a mother is the most remarkable of all human experiences. It warrants your deep self respect, even though it’s easy to take for granted.
