Vfrì: a design firm that puts Turinʼs know-how in the field of design on the web. “The capital of Piemonte region is a good local benchmark of a city that has used culture and commerce to get itself back in the game, attracting investment and talent”. Turinʼs new vitality, described by Tyler Brulè a few months ago in one of the worldʼs most prestigious newspapers, sinks its roots in a profound transformational process that has enveloped the city over the past fifteen years and has made it one of Italyʼs most glamorous cities to this day. The 2006 Winter Olympics were a fundamental phase of this process, followed by the title of World Design Capital in 2008 celebrated with over 340 events. This last occurrence, in particular, projected Turin into the heart of the European map of design, thus stimulating an already flourishing local community of industrial designers who found new energy and ideas through the fusion of experiences arriving from every corner of the planet. Designer and restorer Valentina Farassino, a native of Turin, was operating in this environment of cultural ferment and participated actively in Torino World Design Capital by organizing a series of events with her own company Cub8. In 2009, driven by the desire to expand and elevate her activity to a new standard of quality, Valentina decided to undertake a new entrepreneurial path. The result was the founding of Vfrì, a multidisciplinary design studio made up of a network of professionals capable of meeting the broad-based demands in the fields of interior, garden and light design, photography, copyrighting, restoration, decorations and layouts. It is from this vision that the choice of its location also originates: a 200 square metre loft, obtained from a renovated (former) factory on Turinʼs north side, an area that is changing its aspect more than any other in the city thanks to a massive re-developmental project that is only a stoneʼs throw from that which was the Organising Committeeʼs Headquarters during Torino World Design Capital. Everything is conceived for the free circulation of ideas in the wide open spaces of her studio with the ultimate goal of exchanging thoughts. There are no walls – with the exception of the conference room – and items made by other designers as well are on display in a kind of permanent showroom. Valentina Farassino Architect and designer native of Turin, specialised in restoration during her early career, collaborating with Studio Rava and Studio Gioia. In 2005, she founded the Cub8 Studio ice designers that planned, designed and created the Casa America lounge area for the 2006 Winter Olympics, specializing in both layout design - working for Mercedes, Fiat, Acqua SantʼAnna, VISA, Juventus FC, Milan FC, 100% Design London, Ariston and many others – as well as in the creation of authentic industrial products like the “Vas8” transparent vase, the “Favolo” desk and the “Dovʼero?” (where was I?) bookmark. It was during this period that she also created the layouts for some of the cityʼs coolest spots such as Fluido and Spazio 211. In 2009, she decided to give life to a new activity characterized by a network of professionals capable of expanding the range of offers and providing a highly professional service: Vfrì is born. Since 2010 she is a teacher in Free time design and shop design at the three years of Interior Design at the Istituto Europeo di Design of Turin. From 2006 to 2012 holds the position of vice president of Turn (the firs design community in Italy).
