Karl is a pioneer of social selling and Sales 2.0. He is seen as an authority in the new world of sales. Recently Salesforce profiled him in an eBook on social selling and his session at Dreamforce '11 was met with rave reviews. He is passionate about developing teams for emerging companies. For the past fifteen years, he has taken ideas to market for dozens of bootstrapping startups. By establishing a plan then testing the boundaries of that plan, Karl provides methodologies that help to address particular challenges. He delivers strategies that allow startups to generate revenue then hires the team to manage the plans he initiates. He got his start in sales by taking Photoflex, a small company in the photo industry, from the brink of failure to its greatest year ever. Eventually the call to the tech sector landed Karl at SurfControl, a web and email security company, where he quickly became their top sales representative. In his next role as Director of Sales at WorkMetro, he built the company to annual revenues of $10m a year in just 18 months. The frenzy and excitement of the startup environment revealed Karl's true passion. This was the start of his career as a startup sales mentor and after another 2 years of managing startup sales teams from within, Karl started his consultancy. His passion for the new comes from a belief that sales strategy is an evolving part of society. Every day the manner in which people respond to stimuli is changing. Old practices continually have to give way to new principles and personalities. Karl believes the way we sell must always adapt to the changing behavior of the buyer. With the global shift to social media and the influence of our networks, he has been at the forefront of promoting this change. Karl lives in Santa Cruz, California with his three children. He is an avid cook and drinker of great wine. He makes his own hot sauce and loves to get people together for social cooking projects.
