Hasan Shareef Ahmed, a Canadian immigrant, has worked as the Chief of Editing and Publication in the Research and Evaluation Division of BRAC. BRAC is the largest non-governmental development organization in the world (112,000 full-time staff as on 30 June 2008 and spending US$482 million in 2007) working to alleviate poverty and empower the poor and women in Bangladesh. Under his leadership since 1995, the research publications of BRAC have attained a comparable international standard. He contributed in the dissemination and advocacy of BRAC development initiatives. Before joining BRAC, he served ICDDR,B (International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh) for 15 years in various capacities related to science editing, publishing, dissemination, and advocacy (1980-1994). He contributed as a National Consultant to the Sectoral Technical Committee on Health and Nutrition in the formulation of the Bangladesh National Plan of Action for Children 1997-2002. He also worked as a communication consultant to UNICEF Bangladesh on different occasions during 1994-1998. As an honorary lecturer he taught ‘Communication, editing, and technical writing’ in a Dhaka University affiliated post-graduate diploma course in Library and Information Science, Dhaka (1989-1993). He is a recipient of American Medical Association scholarship, IRRI scholarship for a 14-week extensive training on editing and publication, and IDRC (Canada) grant. He got from He was the founder vice-president of the Editing and Publication Association of Bangladesh (EPAB) and elected general secretary for the consecutive four terms (1997-2004). He has organized a number of national level conferences, workshops, seminars, and training courses. Mr Ahmed is the founder editor of Bangladesh Journal of Communication and Publishing launched by EPAB. He has a good number of research publications in international refereed journals and edited volumes.
