checking facts in raw reports editing reports to remove spelling mistakes and grammatical errors so that they read better and adhere to the house style writing headlines that capture the essence of the story or are clever or amusing liaising with reporters, new desk and editors of various departments proofreading pages working on a page plan to ensure that stories are placed in the right places as per their news value and public interest
