The building consists of two semi-detached houses. The conceptual design was developed in 1984. The construction of the left-hand one, owned by the Shalamanovs, started the following year. The right-hand semi-detached was built ten years later by Mr. Papacochev, a businessman from Bitolya (Makedonia), but the working design differed somewhat from the conceptual because of the client’s requirements. The houses are situated on a very narrow piece of land on a steep hill, sloping down to the street. This made it possible for garages at the lowest level to be given the right leveling from the north, and the living area to be at zero elevation from the south. The next two levels contain studies and bedrooms in the under-roof area. The architectural image is derived from the architect’s intention to provide a smooth batter of the built area, starting from the street, so that the building does not look squeezed into the narrow site.
