NOT Lost In Translation Born and raised in Oeiras, Lisbon (Portugal) from a mixed cultural background (Portuguese father, Hong Kong British Mother, Chinese Grandmother and German ancestors) I always had it in me, the taste for languages and cultural studies. From a very early age I used my language to my advantage and was an English tutor of many med- and high school students. That's where I just knew I had to follow a career in teaching, which I have been doing for 25 years now, having taught EFL in several Med- ,High and Vocational schools in the outskirts of Lisbon and in the north of Portugal where I moved, 25 years ago for professional reasons. After having graduated from the University in Lisbon, I started working on translations as a Freelancer - my first job was for Shell in Portugal (Health and Saftey Transcriptions and Translations) and also, for the Ministery of Agriculture. However, having to go through a professional training and due to the overwhelming world I was in, I devoted most of my time to my career in teaching. In 1991 I was invited to work as a teacher, the Head of the International Relations Department and EU Community Projects by a Vocational School in Braga, where I live. That involved a lot of travelling - Denmark, England, Wales and France, with and without my students, many meetings in Portugal and abroad and lot of creativity for project development. I was invited to publicly present a project on e-learning at Expolnguas, in Lisbon. I was also asked to develop specific learning programs and materials for specific areas such as Building, Eletronics, Adminstrative Services and Communication. I also prepared and oriented a course for adults in post-labour hours. In 2006 I returned to public school (Mid-school) where I still teach students from 12-15 years of age. I was invited for the post of Coordinator of Groupschooling and Management Assistant. I was contacted by a Publisher , in Portugal, to translate several books by Dorling Kingsley Publishers, UK, into Portuguese - "Where to Go When"; "Pilates Practice Companion"; "1001 Ways to Relax"; "15 Minute Everyday Pilates"; "Yoga, Your Home Practice Companion"; "Easy Care Garden"; "Shrubs and Small Trees"; "Easy Pruning";"15-Minute Abs Workout" and"15-Minute Dance Workout". More recently, I have been hired by many businesses and private people, as a Freelance translator, namely: Naio Nail Supplier-UK- Website Translation - Nail Care products UKWelders -UK - Website Translation - Welding Equipment PC-Tudo - PT - Website and Kitchen Furniture Catalogues FC5 Consultores - PT - Brochure on DHL, Pharmaceutical documents, Law documents, Presentations Iurie Malic - PT - Legal Documents Robert Brandao - USA - Legal Documents Prostscript - Philippines - Translations for Sony PS3 Bureau Translations - Brazil - Insurance, Finance, Surveys Interllingua - SPAIN - Website Translation My next step will be to take a Masters Degree in Translation, because I am very detailed-oriented and I know there is still a long way to go. No, I am definetely NOT Lost in Translation Feedback "I will use this translator again" R. Brandao, May, 2012" "It was a pleasure working with Ana on the translation of our website into Portuguese. I talked to her looked like a serious person, after I accepted her offer we changed some e-mails, then onde day she sad she was going to send me a preview, after that I never heard from here again... no repply to my e-mails or to my pms... saddly that's what happen when you give a chance to someone who has never had a feedback... it's because of people like this that new freelancers have such a hard time, I'm considering never using the freelancer.co.nz again
