Xamarin Development

Nov 2013

Shortly after Xamarin and Microsoft rolled out their mobile development tool set, I began testing it. Using a MacBook Pro and virtualized Windows 8.1, I was able to produce code which ran on Android, iOS and WindowsPhone8. This hardware configuration allows emulators for all three platforms to appear on the same physical screen at the same time. Although complicated to use, this development environment provides production of the most secure apps for deployment from a single code-base to multiple device platforms.

iOS App Development

Jan 2013

Introductory app development for the iOS platform was begun in 2013. Native development tools, Xcode and Objective-C with Cocoa, were used. Cocoa Pods was added to the toolset in 2014 to better handle dependency management.

PhoneGap Cross-Platform Development

Jan 2012

Exploration of cross-platform tools began in early 2012. PhoneGap was selected as the primary tool for quick, cost-effective mobile development deployed on multiple platforms. This tool set enables quick proto-typing for any app. It provides a single body of code to be deployed to Android, iOS, and WindowsPhone8. Speedy initial development is followed by simplified code maintenance.

Android App Development

Jun 2009

Development for mobile devices began in 2009 with the Android platform. Initial development utilized the native Android SDK in the Eclipse IDE through the Java language. The IntelliJ IDEA environment was added in 2013 which provided enhanced support for dependency management.
