I need a small, self-contained video-player application that runs on Windows and plays online MP4 streams. The player must handle both live streaming feeds and regular on-demand clips, connecting by URL and starting playback quickly without having to download the entire file first. Standard controls—play, pause, seek, volume—should feel responsive even on average network conditions, and the interface can stay minimal; stability and smooth playback matter more than flashy design. Only Windows support is mandatory right now, but keeping the codebase portable enough for a future Mac or Linux build would be a plus. You are free to choose the language or framework you work fastest in (C# WPF, WinUI, Electron, Qt, etc.) as long as the final executable installs cleanly and does not require the user to add separate codecs. Deliverables • Compiled Windows installer or portable .exe • Full, well-commented source code • Brief read-me explaining how to build, run, and feed the player both live and on-demand MP4 URLs I’ll test by streaming an MP4 live camera feed and a hosted on-demand file; if both play smoothly and controls respond promptly, the job is complete.

Hi, I'm Denis, a full-stack developer with experience building Windows desktop applications and streaming systems. I've worked on several video playback projects handling both live and on-demand streams with attention to buffering, network resilience, and responsive UI. Your project needs solid execution: a lightweight player supporting live feeds and on-demand clips without codec installation. This requires proper codec bundling and streaming protocol support, with smart buffering and non-blocking playback logic for responsive performance. I'd use C# and WPF for native Windows integration, clean installer generation, and fast development. The core work involves wrapping a capable media framework, implementing proper stream handling for HTTP progressive download and adaptive bitrate scenarios, and building responsive controls. I'd separate media logic from UI to keep future Mac or Linux ports straightforward. The key technical consideration is buffering strategy. Live streams need minimal latency and aggressive buffer management, while on-demand playback uses larger buffers for stability. I'd implement adaptive buffering that detects network conditions and adjusts for smooth playback. Main risks include codec compatibility across MP4 variants—solved by bundling the right media framework—and handling network interruptions gracefully through retry logic and clear error messaging. I can start immediately. Let's discuss the details. Thanks, Denis.

Hello, I’ve carefully reviewed the requirements and believe I’m a strong fit for your Windows streaming video player application. My focus will be on stable playback, responsive controls, efficient resource usage, and a clean Windows desktop experience. I understand the project requires a WPF based player capable of handling streaming video reliably while keeping playback controls and application state responsive. My plan is: Architecture: I will structure the WPF application with clear separation between playback, UI, configuration, and network logic. Streaming: I will implement the required stream loading and playback pipeline with buffering, reconnect, and error handling. Player: I will build responsive play, pause, seek, volume, fullscreen, and required stream controls. UI: I will create a clean Windows interface that remains responsive during playback and network operations. Reliability: I will handle connection failures, unavailable streams, playback state changes, and recovery scenarios. Performance: I will optimize memory, CPU usage, startup, and playback behaviour. Testing: I will verify stream stability, controls, reconnect behaviour, fullscreen, and Windows compatibility. I have experience with C#, .NET, desktop applications, media streaming, APIs, and real time systems. Best regards, Ruslan

Handling live MP4 feeds alongside on-demand streams requires immediate chunk buffering so playback starts on the first keyframe without pre-buffering the full file. I will build a self-contained desktop player using a modular, cross-platform engine with native hardware-accelerated H.264/AAC decoders bundled directly into the binary. This guarantees clean installation as a single portable .exe on Windows with zero external codec or runtime dependencies for your end users. The UI will stay strictly lightweight: input field for the feed URL, instant buffer state indicators, and sub-second responsive play, pause, seek, and volume sliders. Under dynamic network conditions, custom buffer thresholding will prevent stuttering on live camera feeds while retaining fast scrubbing on hosted VOD files. The architecture will isolate the core playback logic from the OS windowing layer, ensuring your future builds for macOS and Linux compile without rewriting stream handlers. You will receive the compiled standalone portable executable, well-commented source code, and a practical README detailing build steps and URL feed tests. Delivery will take 2 days, including rigorous test passes against live HTTP/fMP4 video feeds and remote static MP4 assets. I am available to quickly iterate on control ergonomics or UI preferences via direct, transparent updates throughout the implementation. Are your live camera feeds streaming fragmented MP4 directly over HTTP, or will the player also need to handle HLS (m3u8) playlist manifests?

Hello, As a result of a detailed review of your project requirements, I fully understand that you need a lightweight Windows video player capable of playing both live MP4 streams and on-demand MP4 files directly from a URL, without downloading the full file first. I have experience with C#, WPF, Windows desktop development, media playback integration, and software engineering, and I'm available to start your project right now. For this project, I would build a clean C# WPF application using an embedded playback engine such as LibVLCSharp, allowing progressive/network streaming with responsive play, pause, seek, and volume controls. The required codecs can be bundled with the application so the end user does not need to install anything separately. I would also structure the playback layer separately from the Windows UI so the codebase remains easier to adapt for Mac or Linux later. I have a couple of quick questions. • What protocol/container does the live camera URL use—progressive MP4 over HTTP/HTTPS, HLS, RTSP, or another format? • Do you prefer a portable .exe package or a standard Windows installer? I would be glad to discuss further details and am ready to start immediately. Looking forward to hearing from you. Best regards, Carlos.

Hello, I’ll build a lightweight Windows player using C# WPF with DirectShow for low-latency MP4 streaming—it’ll handle live and on-demand feeds without buffering issues. For a similar project, I created a video player for a security client that loaded streams in under 2 seconds even on unstable connections, though the UI was more complex than yours. The core will use a background task to pre-buffer keyframes while keeping the UI thread responsive, and I’ll avoid heavy frameworks to ensure smooth playback on mid-range PCs. This approach minimizes stuttering during seeks or volume changes, which is critical for your test cases. Your main goal is reliable playback for both live and on-demand streams, so I’ll focus on reducing latency and ensuring the installer bundles all required codecs silently. The readme will include exact URL formats and troubleshooting for common network hiccups. After delivery, I’ll fix any playback glitches for two weeks at no extra cost—this covers edge cases like corrupted streams or codec mismatches that might slip through testing. If the player meets your smoothness requirements, scaling to other platforms later would just need minor adjustments to the media pipeline. Let me know if you’d like to discuss the streaming URL handling specifics first. Thanks, Lazar.

I've built streaming media players with FFmpeg and libVLC pipelines before, so this is straightforward for me. I'll go with C# WPF and NAudio/LibVLCSharp for the core—handles both live RTMP/HTTP streams and on-demand MP4s without external codec dependencies, and the architecture stays portable if you need Qt or Electron later. The implementation path is clean: wrap the playback engine, wire up responsive seek/volume/pause controls to handle network jitter gracefully, package it as a portable .exe with an installer, then validate against your live camera feed and hosted file. You'll get full commented source, a straightforward README for URL feeding and local builds, and a player that prioritizes stability over UI polish. I can start immediately. Thanks, Andrii.

Hi, Building a Windows video player that starts MP4 streams quickly requires careful handling of buffering, codecs, and network interruptions rather than just displaying a video surface. The main implementation point will be choosing a playback engine that supports both live camera feeds and on-demand URLs while keeping controls responsive under varying network conditions. I’d structure the application around a native Windows framework with an embedded media engine, keeping playback logic separated from the UI so the codebase can be adapted later for other platforms. I’ll validate stream startup, seeking behavior, volume control, and failure recovery, then package it with all required runtime components so users do not need manual codec installation. My background includes desktop and full-stack application development with C#, JavaScript/TypeScript, and modern application frameworks. I focus on clean architecture and maintainable code, with practical testing around real user workflows. Could you share the expected MP4 stream formats and whether the live feeds require authentication or special headers? I’d like to confirm the playback engine requirements before implementation. Best, Radin.
