Create a website with searchable member database

We have a fitness workout that certifies instructors. We are in need of a new website that will allow instructors a "Instructor Site" where they can add in their profile and class information (as well as have access to downloadable materials, etc). and have that information become searchable by students looking for these classes or instructors.
Please, you must have experience in building this sort of a site, and if you have examples that you can show that would be best!
A couple more details:
Instructors will need to have a login/password to access the site and upload their profile information (includes their photo, class locations, class times, bio).
Students visiting the main site will be able to search by location (city, state, or zip) and/or instructor name.
Another key aspect - the instructors are paying members. Ideally we can build into the instructor site billing and subscription information and payment gateways.
