I require a custom search tool for a new website project, based on UK postcodes. Instead of a standard "find my nearest" search tool, this one must take the visitor's entered postcode and take them directly to one of 120-150 different pages defined by the first 3 or 4 letters and numbers within their postcode.
EG- The submitted Postcode OL11 1SU will open open a page for "OL" (all the "OL" postcodes will direct to one page, however "B1 1AA" may have a different output page to "B99 1AA" (as the prefix B for Birmingham covers such a large area).
Ideally, the coding should take into account that there may, or may not be a space entered into the search box between the first and last parts of the postcode, so the programming will ignore the last 3 characters of the entry and any spaces if present. UK postcodes are always defined in the following way - A(A)n(n)_nAA (A being a letter, and n being a numeric value).
The website will either be wordpress based or HTML / css based and ideally I would like to be able to edit the final database myself once the work is completed by you (so that where a page hasn't yet been allocated, I can direct visitors to one that has, and add / remove postcode districts as the site grows). Please note that although I wish to do this myself as time goes on, I have no knowledge of web based databases (only Excell etc) so may need instructions on how this should be done.
If I can do this myself, I will not need the full database creating, just a few sample entries so that I can then allocate certain codes to certain pages afterwards based on population figures.
The Attached Excel Sheet, with a few examples of the whole project, and colour coded to highlight the fact that the postcode districts may not adhere to a strict numeric pattern may help...
