I have two offices, each running a MikroTik router. If the primary internet line at either location goes down, I want traffic to swing automatically to the other site’s link while all local services should share the local network for voip and nas, Also I need Softether setup for open vpn Current network details • Each office already has its own set of subnets and some tailored DHCP scopes. • There are a few bespoke routing rules that let internal servers reach special resources, so those routes must stay intact after the switchover. What I need from you 1. A clean, reproducible RouterOS configuration for both sites that: – Establishes a reliable tunnel between the locations (IPsec, WireGuard or other MikroTik-native option you recommend). – Detects WAN failure in under 30 seconds and redirects outbound traffic through the tunnel without user intervention. – Preserves my multiple subnets and custom DHCP options on each side. – Restores the original path automatically once the primary connection is healthy. 2. A brief step-by-step document explaining each step for futher trubeshoot: – Any firewall or NAT rules you add or modify. – How to adjust the setup if I change a subnet or add a new VLAN later. 3. Remote session time (screen share) to test failover in real-time so we can confirm phones, printers, and servers stay reachable. Acceptance criteria • Pings, RDP, and VoIP calls survive an intentional WAN disconnect. • No routing loops or asymmetric paths appear in the logs. • CPU and memory usage on both MikroTiks remain within normal limits after the tunnel is up. If you’ve tackled automatic failover with custom address spaces before, let’s get this running smoothly. A

Hi A, What you’re really trying to avoid isn’t just internet downtime, it’s the hidden mess that follows: broken VoIP, asymmetric routing, and custom MikroTik rules getting wiped out by a “failover” that only works on paper. I’ve handled RouterOS site-to-site failover setups with custom subnets, DHCP scopes, policy routes, NAT/firewall tuning, and VPN overlays, and I’d set this up so each office keeps local traffic local while WAN failover shifts outbound internet through the other site cleanly. I’d recommend a MikroTik-native tunnel such as WireGuard or IPsec based on your RouterOS version and throughput needs, plus SoftEther for OpenVPN access as requested. I’ll also provide a clear step-by-step document covering route logic, firewall/NAT changes, and how to extend the setup for new VLANs or subnet changes later. I’ve shared an initial estimate based on your description, and once we go over a few technical or functional details, I’ll confirm the exact cost and delivery schedule. We can then schedule a remote test session to simulate WAN loss and verify RDP, VoIP, printers, and server reachability end-to-end. Do both sites have static public IPs, or is either WAN behind CGNAT/dynamic IP? Which RouterOS versions and MikroTik models are currently in use? For SoftEther, do you want it hosted on MikroTik-adjacent Linux/Windows hardware, or is there an existing server at one site? Looking forward to your reply so we can finalize the exact plan. Do both MikroTik sites have stati

I haven't really used MikroTik, but I've used VyOS and I'm using a Linux router built on LFS to provide full network access to the home lab, and I have some knowledge of VPN and BGP and PBR, and I think I can set up the primary and backup routes for you from a network principle point of view. But I'm not sure your device can configure everything you want and facilitate my remote service and support. If you need me to try, I can help as much as 120%. Unless the mission proves impossible. If you have other questions, look forward to your contact, thank you!

Hi Boss, I can set this up properly without breaking your existing DHCP, VoIP, NAS, or custom routing rules. I’d recommend WireGuard/IPsec with automatic failover + auto recovery under 30 seconds, plus SoftEther/OpenVPN setup. I’ll also provide clean documentation and do live failover testing with you on screen share. Few quick questions: • What MikroTik models are you using? • Static public IP or dynamic? • How many subnets/VLANs on each side? Can finish in 1 day. My price: $120 Ready to start, Boss.

Hi, I hope you're doing well. MikroTik dual-site failover with tunnel setup, automatic WAN detection, and SoftEther OpenVPN is a clean networking project I've handled before preserving custom subnets, DHCP scopes, and bespoke routing rules throughout. I'd configure a WireGuard or IPsec tunnel between both sites, set up recursive DNS or netwatch-based WAN failure detection triggering under 30 seconds, implement proper failover and failback routing without loops, and keep all your existing subnet and DHCP configurations intact. SoftEther with OpenVPN protocol would be configured alongside this. Deliverables: complete RouterOS configs for both sites, a clear step-by-step document covering every firewall and NAT rule added, subnet/VLAN change instructions for future adjustments, and a live remote session to test failover with phones, printers, and servers actively running. What RouterOS version are both MikroTiks currently on, and is the inter-site tunnel being built over the public internet or a dedicated leased line? Best regards, Syed Muhammad Ali Farhan.

Hi, I can help implement a reliable MikroTik site-to-site failover solution that preserves your existing subnets, DHCP scopes, custom routing rules, VoIP, NAS access, and internal services. I have experience with MikroTik routing, VPNs, failover configurations, and network troubleshooting, and would recommend a WireGuard-based tunnel (or IPsec if preferred) with automatic WAN health monitoring and failover/failback logic. I will review your current RouterOS configuration, ensure custom routes remain intact, configure the tunnel and routing policies, set up SoftEther/OpenVPN access, optimize firewall/NAT rules to avoid routing loops or asymmetric paths, provide clear documentation for future troubleshooting and network changes, and conduct a live remote testing session to verify that VoIP, RDP, servers, and internet connectivity continue functioning properly during a simulated WAN outage. I look forward to discussing your current topology and RouterOS versions in more detail. Best regards, Riyan Khamdani

Hello! I have experience with MikroTik/RouterOS environments involving site-to-site VPNs, multiple subnets, custom routing rules, segmented DHCP scopes, and automatic WAN failover. I can deliver a clean and well-documented configuration for both offices while preserving your existing routes and DHCP setup. My approach would be to implement a stable tunnel between the two sites, preferably using WireGuard or IPsec depending on your RouterOS version and current network design, with link monitoring to trigger failover in under 30 seconds and automatically restore the primary path once it becomes healthy again. I can also include: - review of existing firewall, NAT, and routing rules; - configuration that keeps VoIP, NAS, printers, and local servers reachable; - step-by-step documentation for future troubleshooting; - guidance for adding new VLANs or subnets later; - a remote session to test failover in real time and confirm the acceptance criteria.
