Two things decide whether this data is usable, and neither is in the brief. The first is that people perform read sentences. Put a script in front of someone and they reach for a reading voice — stress lands on the wrong syllable, sentences get end-weighted, and the prosody you capture is not the prosody anyone actually speaks with. For a syntax study that is exactly the contamination that hurts. The fix is small and it works: read the line, put it down, then say it. The second is the file itself. You wrote smartphone or laptop, which tells me you are braced for compressed audio. If you ever run acoustic analysis on this, phone compression will already have eaten the formants. I would send 48kHz uncompressed WAV, one file per phrase, consistent mic distance, and no processing whatsoever — no noise reduction, no EQ, no normalisation — because every one of those alters the thing you are measuring. I record for a living. Two music catalogues of my own, Anonymusic and Papa ki Pathshala, both distributed through Apple Music and JioSaavn. So this comes out of a treated room rather than a kitchen. Under thirty minutes of speech, back to you the same day. Do you want one specific Indian English variety, or is regional accent part of what you are sampling? It changes who should be reading.
