India Beyond Tourist Maps Subject Area This project falls under Digital Experience Design (UI/UX) within the field of graphic design and interactive media. It focuses on designing a communitydriven digital platform can allow travelers to share experiences and discover India through personal narratives beyond the typical tourist map. Problem Statement India is often represented through the same popular tourist destinations, which limits how people discover and understand the country. Many lesser-known places that hold cultural and personal significance remain overlooked. At the same time, travelers lack platforms where they can easily share and explore authentic travel stories connected to these places. Objective The goal of this project is to create a digital travel journal platform where travelers from around the world can share their personal experiences and connections with places in India. Travelers who want to explore beyond mainstream tourism often struggle to find authentic, experience-based insights about these locations. This project explores how a digital platform can enable travelers to share personal travel stories and discover India through real experiences rather than typical tourist guides. Background Many travel experiences are not about famous landmarks but about the memories and emotions people associate with certain places. These places could be a small town, a cafe, a beach, a street, or a quiet natural space that holds meaning for someone. Even though these places may not appear on tourist maps, they often tell more authentic stories about culture, lifestyle, and people. This project builds on that idea by creating a space where travelers can share these experiences and help others discover a different perspective of India. Target Audience The main audience is travelers and explorers who enjoy discovering places beyond mainstream tourist destinations and people want to understand India from a more cultural and personal perspective, as well as people who enjoy reading travel stories and experiences. Research Area Research will involve exploring travel blogs, online travel communities, and personal travel stories. Insights may also come from conversations with travelers who have visited lesser-known places in India. Methodology The project will begin with research on existing travel publications, storytelling platforms as well as blogging platforms. After that, personal travel stories and locations will be collected and studied. Based on these insights, the concept and visual direction of the digital journal will be developed. The design phase will focus on creating user interface, storytelling structure, and the digital interface of the e-journal. Purpose I chose this project because I am interested in how travel stories create emotional connections with places. Many destinations become meaningful because of personal experiences rather than popularity. Through this project I want to explore how design and storytelling can show a deeper side of India, beyond the typical tourist image, and create a platform where travelers can share and discover these experiences.
