Happy New Year! A quick glimpse of 2016 :)
As I reflect back on 2016, I can sum it up with one word: passion.
Like many of us, I began 2016 with full of goals and hopes for a great year. However, as the year progressed, I started to find myself spending my time doing two things - mentoring and running.
Early in the year I started mentoring kids at a local school, helping them with their homework, after school tasks, or sometimes just simply playing games, and found it very fulfilling and was truly enjoying it. Many times the kids would catch me off guard when they would ask me what certain words meant - thank you Google for helping there ;) During the summer of 2016 I decided to maybe mentor some adults, especially on building software, and this is where I realized that I really enjoyed helping people out by answering their questions, teaching them a certain technique, or simply sharing with them my experiences. By no means do I think I am good at it, but I am hoping to improve in this area in 2017.
Running gave me that freedom to stop and relax my mind (escape the digital world) and just enjoy that time for myself. As a result of running continuously, I decided to enter a half-marathon. I remember being on the starting line, a little nervous seeing so many fit runners alongside me but at the same time excited to participate. Crossing the finish line that day felt awesome, so a few days later I decided to sign up for a marathon and challenge myself a little bit more. On November 5, I crossed that finish line and again, the feeling was nothing short of amazing. For 2017, the plan is to do an Ironman and knowing this is not an easy I got myself a team to help me cross that finish line later this year.
The passion for mentoring and running has definitely carried me through 2016 and while I have my goals for 2017 set, I am very excited to see what's in store in the new year.
Happy New Year All!
