If you are a 3D artist with an interest or specialty in architecture, than this might be a good fit for you. I am looking for an artist who can design and model a modern Gothic skyscraper for my developing web comic. I'm looking to create a structure that fits into a modern cityscape, yet still has those imposing features of Gothic architecture. I'm looking for a structure that you might expect to be owned and filled with a fortune 500 company, yet one would not be surprised to find a gargoyle perched upon one of its ledges.
As a reference, the Cathedral of Learning at the University of Pittsburgh (see attached image: [url removed, login to view]) looks very nearly like what I had in mind. Specifically, what stood out to me about this tower is the staggered levels around a main tower. The various perches along the ledges, the pointed arches on the windows, the vertical bevels through the length of the tower, and the four short, square spire on the corners of the main tower.
I am of course looking for an original building though, and in addition to the artists creativity, I am also looking for some differences. I think that the building could still be made to look a little more modern. I think this could be achieved by removing some of the frivolities, such as the intricate designs in the arches. The roof of the main tower should have a significant skylight, probably taking up most of the roof. The tower should have at least one convex, c-shaped part of the tower, in which two walls of windows could look out across a large gap. As a reference, look at the example image I provided below ([url removed, login to view]), by a c-shape I mean the two adjoining towers on the front of the building that form a "C" if viewed from the sky.
This reference I made myself, though. I don't expect the final building to have the exact core shape as the reference, but it should give you an idea of what parts of the Cathedral of Learning I value as far as core structure.
Concerning level of detail, I anticipate mostly rendering the building from a distance. However, I would prefer if the detail is achieved through modeling rather than displacement or bump maps. This is due to the fact that I will be rendering my images with a toon render, which requires that sharp angles are actually present in the geometry, rather than on maps.
However, the good news about the fact that I am using a toon render is that I'm not looking for realistic texturing.
Again because I doing toon renders, I would prefer to be able to control difference surface types independently. I would expect a separate material group for walls, roofs, windows, and the skylight on top. If there are other objects that you feel could reasonable be added to the model (i.e. lights, air conditioning units, vents, etc) these will need to have different material groups by type.
I would like to discuss the possibility of a UV map for the windows, thus allowing me to turn on and off lights in the windows when I am rendering from a distance, and so that I am not always rendering with the same lights on.
I have attached a couple of POC renders showing how I will be rendering buildings. One is obviously more complete than the other, but I think that they show some of the challenges I would need to artist to overcome. Note especially how much better the windows look if the panes are modeled as part of the geometry, rather than being part of the UV map.
I am willing to pay all upon completion, or based on milestones that we define together. Whichever you prefer. My time frame is not urgent, but I anticipate that this should not be an incredibly lengthy project for a skilled modeler.

After receiving an average bid higher than expected and discussing the reasoning for the higher bids with many of you, I realized that there is still more work that needs to be done on my part. Namely, I would prefer to cut costs by having a clear design available for the artist, such that the artist only needs to build the model, and not have to create the design.
