I am a medical student undertaking research, I have 2 weeks worth of data (315 patients). This is very preliminary, once the statistical analysis works on this, we can expand to more than a years worth of data but for now we are sticking to two weeks. I have no experience in statistics, so I need help on this.
Basically, we are using two clinical scores to see whether we can use these scores to predict an admission made into the hospital of a patient coming to the emergency department.
We are zooming in on patients who only have a total length of stay of less than 24 hours. So our data is patients who have a length of stay of less than 24 hours, and we see what scores they have (the score is a number out of another e.g. 20/40).
We are trying to see, can these scores prevent these unnecessary less than 24hr admissions?
A low score means they have a low probability of being admitted. How would this be statistically analysed?
Sample data - patient X, has a length of stay (LOS) of 1 day, score of 15/40
patient Y, LOS 1 day, score of 20/40
Patient Z, LOS 2 days, score 30/40
how would this be analysed statistically? The data is here, the scoring is done. It just needs analysis.
Other studies use area under the curve, p values etc.
If everything works out for this, we have further data to be analysed.
