We have administered a survey to a sample population that for several different "jobs-to-be-done" asks the survey participants to rate the importance of the "job-tobe-done" and the degree to which they are satisfied with current products/services they use today to help them get the job done. Both on a scale from 1 to 5. Your job is to segment the survey respondents based on the market opportunity score as per instructions in the Outcome-Driven approach to market segmentation. Be sure to document the procedure so that we can reproduce it ourselves. The survey results from Typeform will be supplied upon job acceptance. This should be relatively straight-forward based on your instructions and the literature around outcome-driven innovation. I would use the R statistical programming language (it is free to use, so you could easily implement it in future projects). * From the information provided, this looks like a three-stage process. Firstly, calculate opportunity scores. You've not represented the opportunity algorithm exactly right (it is also slightly misleading in the HBR article); it should be Opportunity = Importance + max( Importance - Satisfaction , 0 ) in order to stress Importance above Satisfaction. Secondly, use factor analysis to reduce the number of dimensions. Thirdly, this now allows you to use a number of different clustering algorithms to segment the respondents. ** I should add, I did loads of this type of statistical analysis during my PhD.

Btech from IIT with 3 years work experience in project management and data analysis. Pursuing MBA from IIM. I have done segmentation using cluster analysis in SPSS/R/Minitab and can reproduce it perfectly.
