Calling all T-SQL experts!
We have a function written in basic VBScript which takes several arguments, runs some queries to build custom INSERT and UPDATE statements, which it then runs. We would like this function coded into a single stored procedure.
Windows Server 2012
SQL Server 2012 Standard Edition
Description of Function:
The goal is to keep a calculated dynamic range of searches for a customer. We've been doing it successfully now for 7 years, comprising over 600,000 records. We're happy w/ the underlying database architecture and it supports our use cases very well. We're just unhappy w/ the number of roundtrips required from our front-end to the database, which is why we're ready to move this into a single stored procedure.
So, if they search for a Sea Ray boat, and they've not searched Sea Ray previously (i.e. it doesn't exist in CILMAM), we would insert Sea Ray as a "make" (into CILMAM). If they search were also searching for Sea Ray w/ model years from 2012 - 2014, we would extend their Min Year and Max Year to 2012 and 2014, provided of course that the Min Year was greater than 2012 and/or the Max Year was less than 2014. As you can see, the goal of the function is to keep the CI table (customer_interest) and its associated hangoff tables (CILMAM, CILFTM, CILCM) updated to the broadest range of anything searched by the customer. The goal is to have this computed data available to any application that needs it at run-time.
Please quote development of a custom T-SQL procedure to run in our SQL12 environment which accomplishes everything you see in the attached function.
