Hi there, I'm a UK engineer who has been working on Windows and UNIX/Linux for 25 years now. Your issue in compiling FreeBSD based C++ code on Windows... is simple. You are using UNIX or POSIX system call and related header files(e.g Unistd.h). So to be able to compile it on Windows, you will have to install POSIX headers on WIndows, or....... compile the code under WIndows using a cross compiler such as MinGW or Msys2 or other cross compilers. If you want, I can tke a look at the code and help u build it on Windows. Visual Studio too MAY work, as long as you have the correct POSIX headers installed; but if there are POSIX staic/dynamic libraries(.SO files) that the code links to.. then you won't be able to built it Visual Studio. Then, only MinGW, MSys etc will work under Windows, as they come with built-in support for UNIX/Linux type building and related dependencies. Greetings! Usually when going from a linux system to a windows system there are standard c/c++ linux header files, like you mentioned, that have *some* sort of equivalent in the windows environment. Depending on the project, it may be only one or two that need to be tracked down and renamed. Sometimes the calls to those functions also need some "adjusting." I'd be happy to take a look ahead of time, let you know the scope of the job, prior to contracting. Can you point me at the source code? I am a highly experienced C++ programmer with more than 20 years in the industry. I work entirely cross-platform, so your app can be simultaneously released to iOS and Android. I have focused extensively on 2d/3d graphics and imaging software for games and educational purposes, and I have done quite a bit of work with procedural animation systems, GLES shader code, and real-time image processing systems.
