engagement is decided by two things, and likes are neither of them. first, whether the opening frame stops the scroll at thumbnail size. most Instagram graphics get designed full size on a desktop and then lose their text completely in the feed, because the type was set for a screen nobody views them on. i design at the size people actually see it and check legibility there before anything else. second, saves and shares. those are what get weighted, and they come from posts worth keeping or worth sending to someone. a carousel that teaches something gets saved. a good-looking single image rarely does. so if the goal is engagement rather than decoration, carousels with a real payoff on the last slide are where i would put the effort. practical things that get missed: four by five portrait rather than square, because it takes up more of the screen; safe margins at the bottom so the interface does not sit over your text; and the prompt designed into the graphic rather than left in the caption, since that is what actually produces comments. on past work, straight with you: rather than send a folder of other accounts' feeds, let me design one post on your actual topic and brand so you judge it on your own content. then we agree a template set and the rest stay consistent by design rather than by luck. what does the account sell, and who follows it now? engagement from the wrong audience is just noise.
