Senior Web Developer

SENIOR WEB DEVELOPER - Dorset

Our client is a successful and dynamic technology and software organisation operating within the SME sector, tailoring packages to clients needs from fully managed services to software only solutions. We currently require a dedicated, organised, driven and career focused Senior Web Developer to maximise potential and efficiency from our current client base and web development team. You will actively be required to partake in the company’s future Web Development strategy and potential.

You will be responsible for the development of mission critical applications on time and according to project budgets. You will be committed to continuously improving and sharing technical expertise amongst staff.

Minimum Academic Requirements

Relevant degree

Minimum Requirements:

Ability to learn new languages and software

At least two years experience with Java

A demonstrated understanding of databases such as SQL and Oracle

Experience with some or subsets of the following technologies: XML, XSLT, JSP, JavaBeans, Perl, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, ASP.Net, AJAX, Vignette Story Sever or other content management, ATG or other commerce/personalization engine.

An appreciation for software engineering principals such as unit testing and source code control

An understanding of the principals of object oriented design

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Scripting and programming skills required:

HTML 4 XHTML

DHTML WML

XML CSS

JavaScript Actionscript

Perl ASP

ASP.NET AJAX

Work Experience

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 1 year’s previous management experience with a proven track record in an IT and or web development environment.

Previous experience within the Hospitality or catering industry would be an advantage.

A proven track record of staff management is essential.

Responsibilities:

Duties will include:

Managing the operational performance of the department against key performance indicators, to ensure that department targets are met and development opportunities are maximised.

Execute web development strategies in conjunction with the Board of Director. Provide input to Systems Analysts and Project Managers when establishing functional specifications.

Write code using a variety of languages.

Research and experiment with new technologies and share your discoveries with the team.

Work with external companies such as ISP's on occasion in an effort to meet project goals.

Collaborate with the front-end team and other technical people to integrate back end and front end issues.

Throughout the development process quickly respond to bugs and errors identified by both internal and external sources.

Ensure bugs are rectified and accurate moving forward and prepare documentation explaining the steps taken to overcome bugs.

Prepare accurate documentation through out the project.

Participate in project meetings, including post project analysis and provide insightful input and ideas and effectively communicate project status and challenges.

Contribute to internal projects on an as needed basis.

Manage poor performance in a manner that motivates and enthuses.

Assist to manage the departments working environment, ensuring company policies and procedures are met.
