A 3500 word research piece on environmental law needs to be completed. It would involve a research essay on an environment topic that you can choose and a research report citing which all authorities you have used etc. Both of them are inclusive in the 3500 words word-limit. However the 3500 words are exclusive of foot-notes and bibliography. A more detailed instruction is given below.
The language used must be simple and of course it must be plagiarism free.
We would need this back by next Wednesday 16th May.
Following are more detailed instructions:
"(1) an independently researched essay with footnotes or endnotes;
(2) a brief report detailing the research undertaken in writing this essay.
The COMBINED word limit (i.e. for both essay and research report) is 3, 500 words.
The broad title for the essay is as follows:
In relation to an environmental problem of your choice, discuss the extent to which the provisions of international, European Community and domestic law (either in the United Kingdom or elsewhere) have sought to reconcile the objective of environmental protection with that of continued economic growth.
Please present your essay in word processed form.
You must use footnotes or end notes in your essay to identify your sources. These are required in addition to your research report.
Please try to be specific and original both in the topic you choose to write about and in the way you discuss the material you have found on the topic. Remember that if you choose to discuss a very broad topic (e.g. “water pollution”, or “air pollution”) you may find it hard to cover the whole topic within the word limit. Whilst your essay will doubtless include some general discussion of environmental law and policy, you should try to identify and focus on a particular environmental problem. For example, you may choose to discuss the extent to which the activities of petroleum companies in Nigeria are affecting local environments and economies, or the extent to which international conventions and national laws protecting whales have impacted local economies, or whether the air quality management strategy of Greenwich Council has succeeded in addressing the concerns of local residents and businesses. The specific problem you choose to discuss is entirely up to you.
Do not feel that your essay will be deficient if it does not include a discussion of all three of the legal regimes in the question (international, EC and domestic law). The extent to which it is appropriate for you to discuss each set of laws will be dictated by their relevance to the specific topic you have chosen to discuss.
The Research Report:
Whatever your choice of environmental problem, you should undertake some detailed research into the law relating to this particular problem. Your research should include an investigation into the policy issues behind the law and into the practical results which implementation of the relevant law has (or has not) achieved. Essentially, it is a sort of diary where you list each step you have taken and say where this step took you on the road to understanding the topic you have chosen. You may present your research report in note form, or in tabular form, and in terms of style the report can be as informal as you like as long as it makes clear what research you have done and when you have done it."
