Force on an object

I want to figure out how much of a force hitting an object is lessened if it hits the object at an angle. For example, if snows hits the side of a mailbox at 30mph the mailbox should experience a force of 30mph. But if there is a "wedge" attached to the front of the mailbox at 30 degree and it is impacted at 30mph what would the force on the mailbox be? The idea being that some of the force is deflected because it is hitting a wedge instead of the flat side of a mailbox. I have attached a file which more clearly illustrates what I am looking for. Basically, I am looking to figure out what the force on the Y axis will be when a force hits the X axis. Is this something you can figure out and provide the formulas for doing so?
