Case analysis is utilized extensively in this class. It provides students with the opportunity to apply theories and concepts discussed in class to actual or simulated situations. Written case analyses will consist of 3 parts.
I. Situation/Problem Analysis
a. This section should include an explicit and direct statement of the problem(s) you have identified to solve as well as a list of information from the case that is relevant to your logical thought process. The problem must be analyzed to clarify the variables or factors brought out in the case that influence it.
II. Theory Application
a. Students are to describe and apply relevant theories from the readings. They are to cite the theory and explain it, then describe it’s relevance to their case analysis. They should apply at least two theories or concepts for each case analysis.
III. Solution and Implementation Analysis
a. Present your solution to the case. Recommend a course of action. You cannot conclude that more information is to be gathered or that consultant be employed. In the implementation one must consider the feasibility, in terms of available resources, of the solution chosen.
Cases should be typed and double-spaced where appropriate. Use of lists or bullet points is allowed. Case analyses are limited to 5-7 pages.
