Hello! I have been both playing and DMing D&D for many years, it is one of my favorite pastimes, and I understand what is needed for a convenient and successful journal. I would approach this layout by identifying what areas will need to be referenced most often, and making them most accessible. Sections would be marked by tabs for easy access, and have both structure and flexibility, to let players creativity come through, while still being orderly. For decoration, I would use borders, small graphics, and decorative titles to add some flourishes while not distracting from functionality. I am an experienced graphic designer, but new to this particular site, so my rates are very flexible right now. I would be able to provide a rough draft of the main sections within 3 days, and likely would be able to provide a finished product within a week.
