In high voltage transmission and distribution system, high fault currents could cause the system to go in saturation mode which severely affects power system operations. Therefore we are to design and analyze a protection system that can ensure safe power system operations under extreme fault conditions.
Separate protection relays are to be selected for transmission lines, power transformers and current transformers. These are to be digital relays as per the power system specifications. The modeling of the power system is to be done through MATLAB/PSCAD where each section is analyzed under extreme fault scenario. Magnitude of the fault is to be measured across each secction of the power system. Adjustments are to be made in the protection system at each section after the fault analysis. The behavior is to be observed and compared using Simulink through graphical approach before and after the external fault. Acceptability of the system is to be determined on the basis of results obtained.
