wordpress mysql optimisation needed, site running slow, large database needs work

My existing wordpress based website is suffering from poor page load, frequent site downtime to slow/poorly written mysql scripts against a fairly large database (12k products).
The site must be backed up, and any downtime be a minimum whilst any work is carried out.
its a fully operational website, which as well as listing products to the site, we also use many wordpress plugins to automatically push to ebay as well, all existing functionality MUST remain working.
my hosting bills are quite expensive (site ground), and if there are better wordpress hosts I am open to recommendations for moving to better hosting if needed.
Currently I have - 3 CPU Cores, CentOS, 4GB RAM, 100GB SSD, cPanel, Cloud Storage, Management Services at £87 per month. Which seems very expensive for the performance i am getting.
The host has responded with the following on the support ticket for my recent outtages -
