Hi, I've been a Linux and network administrator for more than 8-years and have done a lot with Linux and Squid. I already make something like that. We had a dialup network in past and I developed a software that worked with squid in order to compress the text, js, CSS and other content. Also, the software was able to reduce the pictures quality in order to speed up the user receive bandwidth. Your project is the same as when we look from the content modification point of view.
