Google Calendar API and Typo3

On our website [login to view URL] we show the next 6 upcoming events in the sidebar of our website. Our own existing custom Typo3 extension reads these upcoming events from our Google Calendar using a xml file. From the middle of November the xml functionality of Google Calendar will be deprecated and needs to be replaced with the Google Calendar API. Therefore our existing code needs to be changed so that our Google calendar can be read using the Google Calendar API instead of the xml file. The existing code can be seen in the attached file. In addition we would like to add a small picture to our events which needs to be read from the Typo3 jp_pageteaser extension. For info: part of our solution is that we have a scheduled daily job which reads the google calendar xml file and stores it on our webserver. If our Typo3 extension can't find the file on our server it reads the xml file from Google directly.
