Thank you for considering this project. We keep our (small, but hopefully growing) contact database online, at www.quickbase.com. It's a simple, non-relational database. We can't manipulate the database much online, but we can export it as tab-delimited values (or comma delimited values but that often screws up, since we use commas in some of our entries). The file attached is a sample entry from our database. We're database idiots, however. We don't know Access or even Excel, which is why Quickbase works for us. We want to use our database for sending out a periodical newsletter. We need to sort our contacts by various criteria to send the particular version of our newsletter. For example, under the field "Industry Type", we might need all email addresses for those contacts listed as "Advertising", all email addresses for those contacts listed as "Market Research" etc. It's undoubtedly easy to do in Excel or Access but we don't know how. We want a custom .exe called "Email Miner" which will: a) Ask you where the .tsv file is located. b) List all fields and ask you to choose which one(s) you want to sort out (may be more than one, for example I might want all advertising agencies that are only Pharmaceutical agencies -- that's listed in another field) c) List all choices among the selected fields and ask which of the choices you want email addresses from. For example: under industry type it might list Advertising Industry Market Research Industry with a check box next to each. If I checked "Advertising Industry" it would pull from the database all appropriate email addresses, or I could check both, then it would pull all email address for people working in both industries (there are actually six total industry types). d) Give a summary page of what it's about to do, ie. "From the database "[url removed, login to view]" all the email address fitting these criteria will be pulled: In the field "Industry Type" all those containing the entry "Advertising Industry" AND In the field "Pharmaceutical?" all those containing the entry "Yes - Pharm Only" Continue? Yes No Exit e) Kick out the resulting emails, separated by commas, to a text file (if one chose "continue" in step d, it would prompt us to name the text file and choose a directory). (We can then cut and paste this into the Blind CC field when ready to send our emails). f) Ask us if we'd like to do it again or exit.
Note: We don't need a "mail merge" function for this. In other words, we don't need to personalize the email "Dear Jim" or whatever. When and if we need that, we'll do another posting on RAC! Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done. Complete copyrights to all work purchased.
Windows, all types: XP, 98, ME.
