We have an existing email marketing system that’s run as an online service and are looking to convert to PHP instead of the current Java. You can take a look at the functionality of the existing system by going to [url removed, login to view] and creating a trial account.
Functionally there are evolutionary upgrades from the current system… and here’s a summarized version of it…
Open Source - use as much proven open source code as possible with detailed comments stating where the source of the original code and where the code has been modified. Although a lot of this project will require the integration of open source code, this does not mean this is an open source project. We will decide what sections to release back to open source community.
- Should run under both LAMP (Linux Apache MySQL PHP) and WAMP (Windows Apache MySQL PHP)
- should have installation wizard (ideally having all the required DB and software packaged like LAMP) so client does not need to set the running environment) The big change here from our current model is that it will be easily installable and run on one machine using the default settings. The configuration settings will allow for a setup using multiple machines (Database may be located in a different physical box, Mail server may be located on a different physical box (we are currently using Postfix but would require the option to switch mail server settings)
- Integration with new user interface (currently being designed)
Design the new database so that data in the old database can be imported to the new database easily. The database will mostly follow the fields of Outlook (when you export a .csv). Configuration settings that were initially displayed in the Installation stage will be available again in the Administrator section using a web browser GUI interface. Since the MySQL database may be located in a different physical machine. This database connectivity should utilize openSSL for security.
Import of contacts into MySQL will be from .CSV file and there should be a visual indicator to show the import progress (%finished) One existing option is to use the php+gd dynamic progress bar image script by B. Johannessen, another is [url removed, login to view] which is also listed at... [url removed, login to view] (an optional method which we would like although not necessary at this stage would be to import specific contact fields from Outlook directly into MySQL like Plaxo)
Install newest version of FCKeditor WYSIWYG version2 and integrate any of the existing filemanager update + php connector with image preview (the images location will be on a separate server and each user will have their own folder). An unofficial hack already exists at [url removed, login to view];forum_id=379487
For those interested, further detailed specs can be provided.
